Are there reasons not to get the vaccine?
Perhaps I can shed some light on why healthcare workers are in no rush to get this vaccine, including those who voted against the orange man:
Let's start with the side effects, which have turned out to be more-severe and more-frequent than advertised. Of folk who I know have gotten this vaccine, some had pain at the injection site. Others felt like they had been reinfected with COVID -- several days of debilitating muscle pains, high fever, and brain fog. For some these lasted for a few days, for others they lasted for a week or more. I would say about 20% of the folk I know who got the vaccine experienced one or more severe side effects. Why the difference in side effects? What does it mean? No-one knows. Were any of us warned? Absolutely not. If you're told that that severe side effects of a vaccine are rare, and then your coworkers start calling out after getting it, how much faith would you put in the folk peddling its safety?
Let's talk about hospital leadership pushing this vaccine. This is the same leadership that was wandering around the floors in March writing up doctors and nurses for bringing their own PPE and for wearing PPE outside patient rooms. Because it was detrimental to morale. We can safety conclude they give zero fucks about healthcare workers.
Let's talk about the government pushing this vaccine. This is a government that has within the past fifty years literally infected Americans with infectious diseases for no good reason. Forget about unethical. When it comes to public health, government officials have literally engaged in criminal conduct and gotten away with it. Consider how shocked folk are that the people responsible for poisoning kids with lead in Flint, Michigan might face a $1k fine and maybe a year in prison. Might! Just the idea that government officials might be held accountable for ruining thousands of lives is to Americans a novel idea.
Let's talk about the CDC and the FDA. Let's consider the amount of lies they've pushed in 2020 alone. A few good people like Dr. Fauci don't change the fact that these agencies have been gutted of credible personnel by the orange man.
Let's talk about the corporations manufacturing this vaccine. They're corporations, so by definition they're sociopaths. They will murder people for a chance to boost share prices by a few percentage points during the next quarter. They are also effectively immune from liability if it turns out this vaccine has any lasting side effects, even if they knew about them. If it turns out this vaccine has lasting negative effects, you're SOL. Enjoy.
Now I got the first COVID19 vaccine injection. Can't say whether not it was a good idea. Fuck if I know whether there will be a second dose available in a few weeks. But I definitely thought long and hard before I got it, and I fully understand why folk want to wait and see before they inject a basically untested vaccine. And I'm not convinced that getting a second dose will be a net benefit for me. Also I'm tired of behaving ethically to my own detriment when selfish assholes benefit from behaving like jackasses. If the orange man has shown us anything, it's that being a selfish asshole in America pays, and pays quite well.
Is that unreasonable? Not entirely, especially about the parts about Trump and how he has fucked with a lot of things. But the studies seem to be tip top as far as I can see (something the comment above does not get into) and the the points it makes (CDC didn't make the vaccine so why does that matter?) seem like the reasonable looking troll that we see so often.
But you see how even I saw some things l liked in that scree? Of course I don't "trust" corporations. But what about the many people who administered this study for the vaccine. Like many such points, one will never get a good look into that.
So there you have it. The kind of text (non-fiction, essentially) that plants a little seed in your head and from there, it manages to grow. Interesting and no, it's not easy to end that.
And why not? Why not sow misinformation out there?
And so far the vaccine does seem good. So my instincts still say that the vaccine is fine and should be taken if you can (and you should seek it out)
