I have yet to read any of the great books by George R. R. Martin. Nor any of the shitty ones, apparently. I have read a ton of reviews for A Dance With Dragons, his fifth book. The book mostly interested me because it shows up in science fiction, my domain. But it clearly isn't [...]
Hmmm, seems like an odd comment to say about a book you have never read...
I love Martin's works. Love love love love it. He can write about wiping his ass and I will love it. He commands the English language and I love the way he uses it.
But, ADWD did get on my nerves. Does it mean he's lost me. Hell no, I just have something to gripe about.
His stuff is magnificent and anyone who says different is just...well, that's their opinion.
I don't think he was stalling just to stall. I can't speak to why it took so long for the last one, but I can tell you it was long. So, it probably took a long time to get through it all.
Oh, and I didn't fall in love with Martin because of his Song of Ice and Fire series, but because of Hunter's Run. You should read it.
I'm dying to read all his stuff. And really, I was concentrating more on the fear of letting fans down than the actual worth of the books. They might be awesome, but they upset a lot of devoted readers. I'm looking at the phenomenon from a terrified writer's perspective rather than from a reader's.
