I'm dying to read all his stuff. And really, I was concentrating more on the fear of letting fans down than the actual worth of the books. They might be awesome, but they upset a lot of devoted readers. I'm looking at the phenomenon from a terrified writer's perspective rather than from a reader's.Didn't mean to be so harsh.
My apologies, Hugh. Don't know why I got up on my high-horse.As a writer, I don't think you should worry about your fans because you can't control how they will react.
Stop stressing. Just read Hunter's Run and you'll see that Martin is a writer that writes for the craft - not his fans.

I love Martin's works. Love love love love it. He can write about wiping his ass and I will love it. He commands the English language and I love the way he uses it.
But, ADWD did get on my nerves. Does it mean he's lost me. Hell no, I just have something to gripe about.
His stuff is magnificent and anyone who says different is just...well, that's their opinion.
I don't think he was stalling just to stall. I can't speak to why it took so long for the last one, but I can tell you it was long. So, it probably took a long time to get through it all.
Oh, and I didn't fall in love with Martin because of his Song of Ice and Fire series, but because of Hunter's Run. You should read it.
