Enjoy the Present or Secure the Future
There are two reasons life is hard. One – we are leaving our comfort zone. Or two – we are staying in it. You’re either finding yourself living in the present or overly focused on the future. Did you know that you can structure yourself in a way where you’re enjoying both? You can live in the present while being focused on your future. The choices we make affect our lives.
There is this constant need to manage the idea of instant gratification verses delayed gratification as you are trying to live life effectively. At times you must live in the now and enjoy the moment. Then there are times you must delay gratification because of what you desire over a long period of time.
Delayed gratification is a winning approach. It is very beneficial for the person who is committed to living life effectively. It’s important you understand, not everything has to be done that very moment. Think about that purchase before you make it. Sleep on it and if in the morning it still makes sense, then go for it. This does not just apply to purchases, but many other things, as well.
The temptation of living in the moment is so big, it can be very difficult not to give in. There are many times in life you should give in. You need to do it deliberately. You should always consider the future expense you are paying, because in life you’re always trading with the future. IT’S ALL A TRADE GAME!
If you only invest in the present you will think the future doesn’t look that bright. If you postpone satisfaction until you’re older, you will not maximize life’s enjoyment. There is this constant tug of war going on in the life of someone that is desiring to live life effectively.
Too often we live in the past or enjoy in the present instead of adopting the actions that will secure the future.
Dave Ramsey says, "If you will live like no one else, later you can live like no one else!”
The difference between where you are and where you ought to be is the pain you're unwilling to endure or the price you're unwilling to pay.
The only thing everyone has equal in this life is time! Whether old or young, we all have 24-hours a day, 365 days, 12 months a year. Your time can be your asset or your liability.
You can play now and pay later or pay now and play later. Choice is yours!
