80 Years Ago—Nov. 4, 1940: Off Ireland, U-99 sinks British armed merchant cruiser Patroclus (76 killed), which was rescuing survivors from British armed merchant cruiser Laurentic, sunk the day before.


Eggs and cake are rationed in the Netherlands.
