Scott MacLeod <sgkmacleod@worlduniversityandschool.org>Attachments2:01 PM (2 hours ago)to MatthewLarry, bcc: Marissa, bcc: cameron.kaubris, bcc: cmcgarity, bcc: MarisolHello Matthew, and Larry,  (bcc: Marissa, Carolina, Cameron, Marisol Necochea, Stanford Quechua language instructor, who's natively bilingual in Spanish, too, and from Peru)
Thanks too for your response, Matthew, on Friday. As you may know, World Univ & Sch is seeking to create 2.2 million academic careers, and jobs too in WUaS educational services' stores + (see the '15 planned WUaS revenue streams - both wings - 2020' - https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2020/04/15-planned-wuas-revenue-streams-both.html in these regards, especially).
World University and School has also updated our home page - worlduniversityandschool.org - now with 29 majors or 'programs' (the last word in the points of your email, and which word Dianne Arechiga in Sacramento, CA, Dianne.Arechiga@dca.ca.gov, used in the CA BPPE licensing workshop in February 2019 she facilitated, which I attended in San Jose, CA), and which California BPPE licensing process may be developing for IT as online educational courseware develops too. Thanks to Larry for sharing the most recent update to the WUaS home page with these 29 programs or majors - worlduniversityandschool.org - and much more about becoming a matriculated student at WUaS for free-to-students' best STEAM CC-4 OpenCourseWare-centric Bachelor degrees. How could WUAS BPPE licensing and WASC senior accrediting work from your perspective, Matthew, and based in Sacramento, CA, as you now are?
I have some further questions in response to your replies, to the idea of verified courses, in contrast to "Verified Certificates (VC)," and how this would work at World Univ & Sch in January 2021:
1Verified courses Would WUaS matriculated students be able to enroll in any of these 3000+ courses, and take single verified courses from different universities (so not VCs)?
2Grading assessmentsIf so, and regarding WUaS students taking edX verified courses, in WUaS's now 29 WUaS majors, from a number of different universities at edX, how would WUaS get these grading assessments, when the single course from a variety of different universities is over, and if there were only 1 or 2 WUaS students taking the edX MOOC, for example, and if the overall number of students in an university's MOOC was tiny too? (Will any given university be grading even tiny MOOCs of theirs?)
3Adding content WUaS will look into the LMS (Learning Management System) of Google Suite for Education since we're in GSuite for Education, and possibly with a WUaS Open edX service partner (which starter kit WUaS tried with MOOCit France) approach too. If WUaS developed courses of our own in GSuite, might a native edX integration with Google be forthcoming too? (And WUaS is seeking to build out in GSuite for Education our student matriculation and application process, and in planning for wiki learners in each of all ~200 countries and wiki Universitians in all 7,117 known living languages, - and then brainstorming-wise for all 7.8 billion people on the planet, as wiki teachers and learners - each a Wikidata Q item # or related Wikidata PIN #)
4Partnership (re edX Online Campus?)So if WUaSs' matriculating students can take single edX courses per your edX partnership for WUaS, meaning "access to courses + services like integration, curation, etc for WUaS to offer programs" how would, in this integration, and per our recent home page update, WUaS students develop their majors, or programs, and hypothetically taking something similar to 40 CC-4 MIT OCW > MITx WUaS edX courses over 4 years - in interfacing with edX integration (so WUaS retains our students)?  And how would these edX courses be licensed with CA's BPPE and accredited with WASC senior, both CA institutions or agencies, using the edX platform as the standard?
(And is there a way that WUaS's students could focus on, eventually, taking mostly HarvardX and MITx courses in our WUaS partnership with edX - for consistency of course material, for quality, and for outreach, etc? And are there, or could there be, enough edX verified courses eventually for our new 29 majors to study regarding grades from even mostly HarvardX and MITx (since edX was founded by Harvard and MIT), and in contrast to other universities' edX courses?)
And can WUaS Tweet, for example, that WUaS is partnering with edX, and similar?
Marisol and Carolina ... and Spanish language WUaS, and with edX verified courses in Spanish too ...
Thanks so much to Marisol for calling in last Monday to WUaS's Monday News, and Q&A on the Google Meet video conferencing platform, which makes it possible for people to call in on their phones too. Last week WUaS team member Stanford Quechua instructor Marisol Necochea - https://language.stanford.edu/people/marisol-necochea - called in, and after talking she said she'd email edX's Carolina McGarity, whose first language is Spanish (& is a Middlebury alum, with whom I video conferenced 12-19 days ago, with you, Matthew) about Spanish World Univ & Sch - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Spanish_language (and potentially in the 20 of 200 countries' WUaS online Universities with Spanish as an official language)-  and it seems as if Marisol (who is originally from Peru) would bring Stanford in on the organizing of Spanish language World University and School, in partnering with edX verified courses too !!! (Thanks to Alphabet chairman and former Stanford President John Hennessy too? C'est possible, since edX CEO & MIT Prof of EECS Anant Agarwal was his doctoral student at Stanford). Am glad Marisol called in and am glad Stanford may be coming on board and in WUAS partnering with edX :).

WUaS continues to seek 50-400 students to matriculate online in English in January 2021, provided WUaS is able to set up the IT (we still haven't found a professional admin for our G Suite for Education), and develop relationships with state offices in all ~200 countries for reimbursement to WUaS (so we can then pay edX).
Thank you, Matthew, and looking forward to your responses and next developments in WUaS partnering with edX!

Best regards, Scott
I've minuted a number of these recent developments in WUaS's open Monthly Business Meeting minutes for your information too - https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2020/10/minutes-for-101720-world-university.html (and which meets on the 3rd Saturdays at 9 am PT). Best regards, Scott

Hello Scott,
Thank you for your email and your questions.Verified Courses: All 3,000+ edX courses have the option for "Verified Certificates (VC)." This means that if a student pays the course fee they have access to graded assessments + certification from the university where the course is taken. This is compared to the "Audit Track" where students can watch videos at no cost. Grading: Each course/university sets its own level for the necessary requirement to earn a VC. This can be 65% to 80% graded required. Certifications are pass/fail but our admin dashboard provides access to see performance and grade percentage. Adding Content: For our instances of Open edX (edx.org), we have specific guidelines and costs for partners to contribute content to be featured on our website. For a student to see edX.org courses and WUaS courses, we recommend learners discover content on a private LMS platform like Google or Moodle. We have native integrations with Moodle, Canvas, and we will soon be offering Blackboard as examples. Partnership: Partnering with edX Online Campus means providing access to courses + services like integration, curation, etc for WUaS to offer programs. Thank you again for your questions and I hope this information is helpful.
Best regards,
Matthew

Dear Matthew,
Thanks for your email, and for your auto-respond when I sent out the WUaS Minutes on Wednesday or so. I hope this email finds you well too.
A few questions, and as WUaS seeks to expand our majors' list (and potentially with courses involving assessment of students in terms of what they've learned or come to know as a consequence of taking a single course), and which Larry is working on primarily:
How many of the 3000 + edX courses, or 2000+ edX courses now available, are verified? And what does verified mean beyond - https://support.edx.org/hc/en-us/articles/360013426573-What-are-the-differences-between-audit-free-and-verified-paid-courses- (ie graded assessments ) ? Does the edX verified course system itself give the grade - and in what ways is the faculty member who created this course, or an assistant, involved in giving the grade? So, in what ways do verified courses each as a system give out grades? In courses that involve writing too, how would edX verified courses assess the writing by students (a 10 page paper even?)? And are all 205 (the number I had counted fairly recently) CC-4 MIT OCW > MITx courses 'verified courses'? WUaS's CC-4 MIT OCW-centricity is one of the significant ways that WUaS is going to communicate with governments' departments of education in all ~200 countries - probably via WUAS G Suite for Education - that WUaS has to be free-to-students in their countries - i.e. due to this Creative Commons'4 licensing "non-commercial" attribute.
And in what ways too could WUaS best add our own courses to these potential 31 majors? Just checking out this - https://www.edx.org/subjects - further and re the list of 31 subjects, 'Social Sciences' - https://www.edx.org/course/subject/social-sciences - in which no Anthropology courses are listed, for example, but there are currently a few Anthropology courses listed here - https://www.edx.org/learn/anthropology .Am curious how WUaS might add courses & majors further by adapting MIT OCW > WUaS Open edX for example, with these  - https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/#anthropology. Am wondering also in these regards how to think about WUaS majors and in planning for the other 200 countries with courses in English ( e.g. some countries might not want what they consider 'politically oriented' courses, for example), whereas in their official main languages WUaS can take a different approach to majors. That said, WUaS is going to seek to study rigorously and compare how students learn across languages and cultures, potentially with MIT OCW - https://ocw.mit.edu/ - in its 4 languages, as a basis for translating courses.
Am wondering too as a test case how to add my "Network Society and Information Technology" course - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html - to this?
And what does partnering with edX Virtual Campus mean beyond what stated on the page? Might there be any way to dovetail this with WUaS plans to develop a single realistic virtual earth for STEAM or virtual Lego Robotics - https://twitter.com/search?q=%23RealisticVirtualEarthForRobotics&src=typeahead_click (eg see too RealisticVirtualEarth) - as campus, and academic field sites, and in thinking in terms of Google Street View with time slider, Maps, Earth, TensorFlow etc.
Thank you so much, Matthew.
Best regards, Scott
PSAs you may have seen in the WUaS Minutes, WUaS is seeking a profession G Suite Admin or similar:

Matthew,

And as I emailed Larry when he sent the draft of the new 29 majors
"What are your thoughts about the variable lengths of edX verified courses, and the credit system you have in mind?"
Sincerely, Scott
Thoughts with regards to your knowledge of edX courses of different lengths, and possible accreditation, and grading assessments from different universities?
Thank you,Scott

Dear Dick,

Thanks so much for your email reply last Thursday (and below). In reading your erudite "Out of Africa" chapter on our origins genetially in "Brookline Thursday Club Essays: 1995-2016" this morning, I laughed when I read on p 58-59: "But on the whole genes are very Republican. They are stable and do not like change. Mutations are rare" ... and regarding our unstable rep. President? He could conceivably be voted out of office tomorrow. And could this recent "Biden is steady" article in the Boston Globe - https://www.bostonglobe.com/2020/10/31/nation/biding-his-time-waiting-moment-come-him/ (read in Tor browser) - have even been a response to your talk in the Brookline Thursday Club? :) And did these lines get a good laugh when you read your paper in Brookline (which I'm thinking may be a Democratic base)?

Am appreciating your genetics' focus in "Brookline Thursday Club Essays" much, as I continue to seek to begin a family :)
Maybe tRump's coattails will be very very long re Senate battleground state (albeit he seems so ready to roll up his sleeves, sans any coat whatsoever)
