Book Covers

I'm currently working with my cover artist on covers for two upcoming books-- 3rd in the Sons of Pendragon series and the 1st in The Hunter Chronicles series. She does an amazing job and I only have to ask her to tweak them a little.

Sometimes I feel bad when I ask, but I'm a perfectionist when it comes to the covers and I want them to reflect the books as closely as possible. It's wonderful to work with an artist who gets that.

I believe book covers are an important component of the book. They're what the reader sees first. They can either cause them to pick up the book or pass it by for another. I want mine to draw the reader in and make them want more.

Hopefully, when you see the covers for "Dragon's Challenge" and "Holding Out For A Hunter," you'll think we got it right.

Jennifer Robbins I know exactly what you mean. When I work with an artist, I love it when they get the drive for perfection... even if I do feel bad requesting changes to their work.

Sloane McClain My cover artist is amazing. She's never fussed when I've asked for her to redo something. It's so nice to work with professionals. I've loved all but the last cover. And, apparently, that's just me as I've posted it on my FB page and people there loved it. I know it comes from them not exactly matching my mental vision of the characters. lol

Jennifer Robbins It's nice when you have a cover artist. I worked with a 'professional' publishing house for indie authors, and their artist was fabulous, but they asked for the moon in payments... and I'm not made of money. I'm out on my own now, with the Amazon Direct Publishing. It's free, but I don't have an artist...

Sloane McClain Since my books don't neatly fit in any one genre, I went the indie route with Draft2Digital for ebooks and Barnes & Noble for the paper versions. I believe D2D might offer a cover artist, but I had already looked at book covers that I liked and then searched for the artist. I narrowed it down to a couple and contacted them. I'd be glad to tell you mine if you want to check her out. She's surprisingly reasonable in price--at least to me, and I have very little disposable income. You can email me at pendragonsandhunters@gmail.com . I'll be editing tomorrow, but I'll be on the computer for a few more hours today.
