Leadership Lessons from Nehemiah - Brad Lomenick
One of my favorite Old Testament leaders is Nehemiah. He was a government worker in the employment of a foreign king. A high ranking worker no doubt. A leader. A cupbearer to the King. Trusted and respected. Then he became a building contractor, called in to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Through the story of the Old Testament book, we can discover a few of the leadership qualities that he possessed.
The Iron Lady's Failed Mid-Career Transition - Hermina Ibarra
With the recent movie The Iron Lady, leadership scholars like me have seized the opportunity to reflect on the lessons of Margaret Thatcher's life and career. In the film, we see an old and diminished Maggie flashing back to the pinnacle of her power. But, perhaps the most important and the least obvious lesson — for Thatcher herself, as well as for us — is about the midlife transition she failed to make; she was a victim, as many of us are, of her own success. From her early days as head of Oxford's conservative political association to her first moves as a politician, Thatcher's story is a textbook case on how to get power and, later, how to lose it.
28 Killer Social Media Resources to Step Your Game Up - Justin Wise
One of the questions are hear most often is, "what social media resources do you recommend?" I've never taken the time to put them all in one place. Until now. Here are my "I reserve the right to change this list whenever I need to!" must-have social media resources, in no particular order:
Why Are Christians Lousy Tippers? - Dave Miller
It makes me furious when I hear that Christians have a reputation for being stingy when the time comes to leave a tip. I cannot imagine why that is. Those who have been given life through the grace of Jesus Christ, who have the promise of the presence and provision of Christ and have access to all the blessings of heaven turn into clones of Ebenezer Scrooge when the bill comes at the restaurant? Shame. So, here are Miller's Rules for Tipping. Yes, they are rules. Because I said so! And if you can't abide by them, then eat at McDonald's where tips are not expected. Do not bring reproach to Christ and to his church by ignoring the rules!
97 Ideas for Building a Valuable Platform - Chris Brogan
2012 is the year where social media oversaturation hits hard. We will scale back on our participation in social networks, and we will most certainly scale back who we choose to follow as sources. This won't be because someone is bad or good. It will be based on whether the connection with that person adds value to the stream of information we're cultivating or not. In determining how to deliver value and stay relevant and visible in this new landscape, I've written down 97 ideas to help you build a valuable platform.
A Gospel-Shaped Pro-Life Passion - Jared C. Wilson
I don't believe laws—or the protests and petitions and politicking that seek to achieve them — are the primary way we are going to eradicate abortion. Overturning Roe v. Wade is a win—and it's a win we should work for, hard—but in my way of thinking, it is not the win. The emancipation of the slaves and ensuing civil rights legislation was necessary. But none of it ended racism. I am not proposing an either/or. What I'm proposing is that evangelicals take the harder route, adopt the harder cause, that we pray for and aim for Spiritual change of hearts more than we aim for legal stay of hands.
