Indian Matchmaking is a reality TV show on Netflix that centers around arranged marriages. From an American point of view, it's very eye opening.
I wouldn't have thought that an independent woman would still be looked down on in India today. I stand corrected.
The show is full of amazing people like Nadia and Vyasar. Then you have the man-children, Pradu and Akshay. Each has never left their parents house, and I guess never will. Apparently, the wife is expected to move in under the mother-in-law's roof (and oh those mothers). Run girls!
You just want to slap both of these guys, and then tell them to go make their bed.
What is truly interesting about the show is the cultural differences, not just between American and Indian sensibilities, but between Indians and American Indians themselves. Nice that you can get such exposure and not leave the house (not that any of us could if we wanted to).
Enjoy!
