Lines
Lines. Our world is made up of lines, in some ways defined by them. Super thick lines, thin lines, blurred lines or even invisible lines. We navigate around them all the time or draw them to keep ourselves in and others out. Think about it… borders between states and countries, limits to how much we eat or when we allow ourselves to have fun. Lines drawn as to what we will accept from a coworker or a boss or how much we let our kids get away with.
These days, I find myself reminding myself just where my lines are. It’s easy to think of life as one big jumbled mess—no weekends versus weekdays. I feel as if all the rules and structure just went out the window. And sometimes this is okay. Nobody wants to live their lives all planned out without any flexibility for change. That’s not the way life works. Believe me, I’m a planner with almost everything in life and while I’ll admit structure and planning are essential, I’ll also admit we can’t anticipate everything. This year’s Covid-19 is a perfect example of this. Beyond Covid we’ve also come across societal lines and issues, asking ourselves the very important question of why some of these lines or barriers continue to exist?
So what do we do? Lines or no lines? Well, some lines are going to exist no matter what. We may put them there or they may have been there long before we ever came into the picture. Either way we learn to navigate them and if at some point we conclude they shouldn’t be there then it is up to us to erase them.
Happy writing this week!!
