Who is Behind the Mask?

While we try to protect ourselves and others with a mask,

and when appropriate also with gloves,

we all have been learning wonderful things.

Some embraced the masks, so much so that they made them for others.

They kept themselves safe and also thought beyond

to each person wearing a mask, to the heart beneath.

Some closed their eyes to talk to God, to reach as deep as Soul,

like leaping into a wonderful deep pool of golden light.

They did this for themselves and their family, not realizing

one gift from God benefits many.

Some worked tirelessly to care for the sick,

while others cleaned attempting to vanquish the hidden enemy of life.

The doctors, nurses, and all their staff won’t give up,

and neither should we.

Workers at all the necessary industries across the world

labored for themselves, their families,

and others they may never meet.

Aiding others to stay alive can’t be measured.

Whether we are working a job,

or are at home, we are more than we’ve ever been.

Taking online classes, taking care of family members,

playing with pets and children, teaching, reading,

gardening, knitting, crocheting, sewing,

creating art, singing songs, writing books,

reflecting on life, nature, and God …

At this moment, we are more!

When the time comes to give up the mask,

what will we be then?

The force that challenged and changed us creates a new world,

but how we live in it will be our invention.

Who is behind the mask?

Who will emerge when the masks are taken off?

Will we be ready for the challenges of a New World?
