I rarely DNF a book. Mostly that's because it takes a lot to get me to pick up the book in the first place. I have my go-to, proven authors, but for all the first-timers-to-me, I read the blurb, check the reviews, and if I'm interested enough, read the preview. Turn-offs are bad editing, uninteresting prose, and confusing situations. By the time I finish the preview--if I finish it--I have a pretty good idea whether I'll like it enough to invest the time. One thing I absolutely hate is a cliffhanger ending. If I've gone that far into a book's world, I want a satisfying ending for at least that story in a series.
