B: Bask #Step2

Once you have accepted the situation you are in, bask in the knowledge that you are unique. There is no one exactly quite like you. There may be similarities, in taste, in emotions, in empathy, in intellect, but you are you. Exactly. Revel in that knowledge and let some sunshine in your life. If you like, imagine you are standing in a room by a sunny beach and you throw open the window and feel the sun on your face, your arms your legs. Yes, that is you. Feel the warmth and relish its’ glow. And know that you are perfect. It does not matter whether you are short or tall or fat or have frizzy hair or pimples on your face. These are just outer layers of an amazingly unique creation that is utterly perfect: you.The Ashthavakra Gita says simply that you are the pure existence and all you need to do is set yourself free. Easier said than done, I admit.
There’s a young poet out there, Kristen Costello. She speaks straight from her heart, you can find her poems on Instagram @kristens_notebook. You can follow her here or at https://www.instagram.com/kristens_notebook/. One of her poems speaks about this beautifully, (I think) and of course I’ve taken her permission to share this here:
“I don’t wish to be someone else anymoreDon’t want to slip into another girl’s skinExchange outsides with someone SkinnierPrettierSkinnier      Skinnier            SkinnierI am okay.
I can make eye contact with mirrors nowAnd all of the people who’ve called me ugly.
I don’t want to peel the skin from my bodyAnd papier-mâché perfectionIn its place.
I won’t lie and say I love myselfBut I don’t wish I was someone elseAnd right nowThat’s a start.”
That IS a start. Think about it.
