What draws you to a book?

I am a cover first girl.
I know in my heart of hearts that this is wrong, but there are so many books out there that, no matter how much you want to, you cannot own them all. In the same way that you simply would not have time to read all the blurb that goes with every book to make an informed decision.
So unless some-one tells me I should read it now or else, or I know and like the author. I go cover first.
My second influencer is the title. If the Title suggests it's not something I would be interested in I skip it. For the same reason as the first. If I don't want to read about dragons and fairies, then something like "Fairies who train Dragons," Is unlikely to hold my attention.
Then I look at the blurb and the ratings and if all looks well I will read the excerpt.

Although this goes completely out of the window when its a favourite author, such as Terry Pratchett, who never fails to impress.
Of course I can always be swayed if a friend tells me I should give it a go. I suppose that would count as an external rating.

I love to find new literature, a good story that keeps me gripped to the very end, or something that is beautifully written. Finding such a book is wonderful, however I tend to get less done when I do.

I would love to hear how you find your books, what draws you to them and what keeps you hooked.
