Micah is closing in on a killer. But her investigation draws the killer’s attention, and she finds herself in the middle of an operation that could mean the end of her career—or worse, her life.

+ About Virtually Harmless

From USA Today Bestselling Author, P.D. Workman, comes a gripping techno-thriller, part of a multi-author series tied together by an interlocking cast of characters, all centered around the fantastic new promise of high technology and the endless possibilities for crime that technology offers, in a world where getting away with murder can be not only plausible, but easy… if you just know how…

Micah lived a quiet, comfortable life, her involvement in law enforcement limited to the composite pictures that she produced with her computer and colored pencils.

But everything is turned upside down when she involves herself in the case of an infant found abandoned in the Sweetgrass Hills.

With the help of her knowledge of DNA and law enforcement contacts across the country, Micah is closing in on a killer. But her investigation draws the killer’s attention, and she finds herself in the middle of an operation that could mean the end of her career—or worse, her life.

★★★★★“The book will keep you guessing until the very end. Love how the author describes the characters in the perfect amount of detail leaving a little to the imagination.”

+ Author's Note

Author’s notes may contain spoilers!

I joined together with some other authors of the Do No Harm anthology to write a new high-tech thriller series.

I have long been fascinated with DNA analysis and the possibility of being able to create “virtual” composite sketches of the perpetrators of crimes without any eyewitness testimony. Back in the 80’s, I predicted that one day we would be able to analyze DNA to predict the color of the donor’s eyes and hair, among other things. We are now far beyond being able to predict eye and hair color and can predict facial structure, body type, and far more.

Take a look at the links in the Book Club Resources to see some of the real-world science being used today!

Of course, my character Micah Miller is able to go beyond the genetic data to the epigenetic data and environmental factors to predict even more about the appearance of the suspects in her cases.

+ Praise for P.D. Workman

“Every single one of [P.D. Workman’s] books has spoken to me in ways no one or almost anything else has. And I have found strength in the books I’ve read.”

“The way that P.D. Workman writes just flows amazingly and allows the reader to get really invested in a book.”

“This is one author I certainly will be looking out for, I can’t recommend her enough.”

“I’ll read anything by P. D. Workman that I can get my hands on.”

“Every book by PD Workman that I’ve read has been a gripping one, however different the genres are, going from lighter mysteries to really dark ones… this is one of my favourite, most dependable authors.”

“P.D. Workman is an incredibly versatile writer. No matter which of her books I read I am drawn into a great story and honestly, I don’t think I’ve followed another author that could go from cozy mystery to YA to a PI series dealing with mental health issues. Really enjoy her books!”
