Eva B. Seriously, it's that easy. Just don't do it.

I don't understand why some people find that so hard...

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) Indeed. And as a corollary, never tell anyone they read your book wrong or how they should read it. Unless hired to review on a paid, professional review site (not here on goodreads which allows no commercial reviews), readers are pretty much the customer. Their reading experience and resulting opinions are just that, theirs.

Exactly. You can't please everyone and it's foolish to try. Accepting that some feedback is going to feel ridiculous is a necessary part of any customer facing role.

Liam || Books 'n Beards Hi I couldn't help notice you gave The Door of Shades and Mist a negative review! Having a look through your review it looks like you may have missed a few key points and misinterpreted the prose, for example...

Some of my favorite greatest hits I've gotten (not necessarily from authors but from other assholes).

"Maybe you'd STFU if you had a dick in your bitch mouth."

"You must have mental and emotional issues."

"As an author yourself, you're probably just jealous..."

"You didn't like this because it wasn't one of your bimbo beach reads."

"The fact that you read romance means that I can't take you seriously..."

"Science fiction and fantasy weren't even written with women in mind as the audience, so your feminist brainwashing is irrelevant."

/paraphrased

Eva B. "Science fiction and fantasy weren't even written with women in mind as the audience, so your feminist brainwashing is irrelevant." Do they...do they not know that Mary Shelley, daughter of Mary Wollstonecraft, an early feminist, wrote the first science fiction novel? And they act like you're the "fake fan" :/

Oh my lawd. I had a fairly well known author tell me to shut the fuck up when I said he should stop seeking out negative reviews of his own books, lovely guy.

How dare you, a consumer, try to find out what other consumers are saying about a product?! Obviously you should go in blind and buy whatever crap is being peddled to you, because this is America, the Land of Capitalism. /s

Edit: At least, I'm in America. The location of your capitalism may vary.
