MY POV on RWA

Laura’s note: To frame what Nora discusses here, please refer to this post on All About Romance. The author does an excellent job of laying out the timeline to the current situation. CatBookMom Thank you for the thoughtful post. I followed the link to the current uproar (and then found something about "the Reno fiasco" - what were they thinking???) What a mess; it really does seem that RWA has self-destructed.

I started reading your books years ago, at the suggestion of a friend of mine who now writes romance novels, mostly supernatural. I am a huge fan, re-read the In Death books and several of the trilogies/stand-alones often.

It's sad and difficult to acknowledge the years and years in which so many of us have marginalized POC, the differently-abled, the differently-gendered. It's not going to get swept away in just a year or two; and it's going to be very painful, because so many of us Anglos don't think we're racist/ableist/anti-LGBT-etc. It's ingrained so deeply.

But I honor you, and other authors who are stepping up, making real efforts to be inclusive. The sign over the bullpen door in the In Death novels (after Delusion?), is great, and funny, too.

This is a book near the top of my TBR Mountain. Maybe you haven't heard about it; some of my Ravelry (knitting web-community) have recommended it. White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism

Thank you, again.
