Acceptance
Halloween is almost here! This year it seems to have come by in a whirlwind and I’m asking myself where the time has gone. I honestly feel somewhat cheated because I usually get a lot more time to think about the holiday and plan a little fun. Still, we made it to Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas (it was shown on the big screen as the orchestra played the soundtrack) this past weekend and I have to admit I loved all the spirit—folks dressed up in full costume, reciting the words of familiar songs.
There are so many reasons I love Halloween but I do believe a big one is the desire to disguise and have fun. Most times we don’t like to dress up in costumes but Halloween is just different. Every year, more and more folks seem to get into the mood and while I do not agree with overpriced candy or late night callers, I do enjoy seeing all the costumes and the general acceptance that come with them. Halloween is one night we don’t seem to judge. Anyone can dress up and the uglier or more unique the better! Wouldn’t the world be such a different place if we had that same attitude every day? I’m not saying we all need to dress up like Dracula but more our willingness to accept.
Happy Halloween and happy writing this week!
