Today I’m taking part in the blog tour for Masquerade: Oddly Suited, a young-adult romance anthology from The Insecure Writer’s Support Group which is coming out on 30th April 2019!

[image error]I’m excited to interview one of my favorite authors, Jennifer Lane who has a new story in this anthology. So here we go!

Hi Jennifer. Were you a reader when you were a child? If so, What books turned you into a reader?

I was a voracious reader as a child. Some favorites I remember are From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, The Gift of Magic, and The Rats of NIMH (which may have sparked my interest in a mental health career!)

No wonder we’re such good friends. The Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler was one of my favorites, too! Name some a uthors who have influenced you. (You have certainly influenced me!)

What inspires your stories? Ex. Real life, music, news stories?

I have many story inspirations, including my work as a psychologist (witnessing the indomitable human spirit healing from trauma) and movies (my psychological thriller Twin Sacrifice combines themes from the movies The Illusionist, Mumford, and Mystic River). I also like to weave observations from my funny friends and family into my stories.

Twin Sacrifice is one of my all time favorites. Those characters still haunt me and I admit… I want to know how they’re doing! If you could choose a theme song for your books, which song would represent each book or series?

All of my books explore how love can support and heal two people who have endured too much pain in life. One song demonstrating this theme is “Lay It All On Me” by Rudimental featuring Ed Sheeran (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtejRvpwscY)

Okay I have to know, what books are planned for the future?

I have an idea brewing for a romance between coaches from rival universities.

Tell me about your  story, Behind the Catcher’s Mask

The Insecure Writer’s Support Group has provided so much encouragement for my writing. When I learned the theme for IWSG’s next short story anthology: young adult romance featuring a masquerade/mask theme, an image implanted in my mind:

This vision guided my story, Behind the Catcher’s Mask:

Who can help her through a meltdown on the pitcher’s mound?

Fast-pitch softball is Andie Wilson’s life. She’s a fierce pitcher hoping to score a college scholarship, and she hates the annoying distraction of cocky baseball players crashing her high-school charity game. But she doesn’t anticipate the impact of one baseball player: Colt Turner. As Colt stares at her through his catcher’s mask, his steadfast gaze may be just what she needs to guide her through a crisis. And Colt may need Andie, too—to cope with the secret hiding behind his mask.
