The news is always making scientific breakthroughs seem more significant than they are. However important, the news always seems to get confused and mistake it for something way, way more important. As a result I tend to get preemptively disappointed by scientific headlines under the assumption that it’s going to pull way, way back from what the headline originally promises once I look into it more. Then I usually just scoff and move on. For example, this one:
Physicists reverse time using quantum computerMy immediate thought was that the bigger question was whether or not they had yet found a way to take back those words that hurt you.
