My To Read Shelf Is A Bit Out Of Hand And My Wife Is Starting To Notice

My to read shelf is getting a bit out of hand and my wife is starting to notice. To stop me from book hoarding, or to curb it, I’m only supposed to have one shelf on a bookcase as my to read shelf. Sometimes I put a book or two on top of a full shelf or a book or two in front. Currently I have two stacks of books on top of a full shelf and two stacks in front. This is after some recent attempts to get down a few books.

My wife noticed.

Luckily, she was still kind of just poking fun at this point. Sort of. There was a hint of warning behind the laugh. I mentioned how this was due to getting a care package of five free good sized books from a friend working marketing at a press who knew I review anything I read, taking a month to get through Poor Fellow My Country, the two book clubs I belong to, the 18 day trip to Australia we took where I only read a little on flights, books from Christmas bookstore gift cards I hadn’t been planning on, and one purchase of two “books” (one in two hardcover volumes and the other a set of ten hardcover) I’d been wanting off of one of those longest books in English lists. She kind of understood, but the unstated concept was to watch myself.

She didn’t realize that I had my next two books I was planning to read sitting on a nearby table under the book I’m currently reading.
