2 Chronicles is a tragedy of the decline and fall of Israel, seen from the line of the Judean kings.

It begins with the joyous reign of Solomon and ends with the destruction of the temple and captivity in Babylon.

Along the way are heroes and villains, godly men and apostates, prophets and renegades. Regicides and suicides occur, as well as repentance of kings of the nation of Judah, but all collapses in the end in endless sin, materialism, and political corruption.

Yet, the last verse records the release of the last remaining Judean king from captivity in Babylon. A spark of hope remains.
