Chapter 21 Steve & Ophelia

An excerpt from The Violet Series Book 1: The Water Nymph’s Tale.

Ophelia and Steve were in their house cuddling in their bed, when they received the message from their daughter.

Steve reached for his tablet. “You’d think we wouldn’t be bother this time of night.”

Ophelia smiled. “It’s probably Tabitha telling us she’s on her way to the house to make sure we’re both dressed when she arrives.”

“Yeah, she would do that.” He read the message. “She is nearby, but she says she is with two young people who are sitting near the river and there are were creatures nearby. She thinks they’re hostile.”

“We better go and tell the other water nymphs.”

“And Herbert.” Steve sent a message to Herbert and got up.

Ophelia got dressed and Steve turned into a werecat before leaving the house.

**************

Herbert opened his eyes. His water proof tablet was beeping. He checked it and found messages from Violet, Steve and Ophelia. “Hey, water nymphs! My granddaughter and her friend are in trouble. Let’s go help them out. This time it’s hostile were creatures.” He rose to the surface.

Some water nymphs followed him. They formed into their humanoid shapes.

The were creatures stood their ground.

Herbert scanned them. “I know who you are. You are the ones responsible for the murders of several colonists who used to work at the power plant. Now you come to threaten my own granddaughter and her friend.”

The were creatures snarled, but stepped back.

Steve and Ophelia ran to the scene. Soon they were there surrounding the hostile were creatures with the water nymphs.

The were creatures were trapped. They looked at each other and at the water nymphs, werecat, and the water dragon.

Violet and Antoni stood up. The water nymphs surrounded them.

The were creatures snarled, howled or screamed. They moved to attack.

Steve caught the other werecat unaware. The water nymphs turned to liquid and surrounded the werewolf.

Tabitha, Antoni, and Violet were pushed into the river. Violet and Tabitha were relaxed as they went down. Antoni made faces and bit his lip. His eyes were wide.

Tabitha and Violet saw Antoni and grabbed his arms. They swam back up to the surface with him. They didn’t let go until he was safe on the sand again.

The hostile were creatures were dead. Steve was bloody, but Ophelia was tending to him. Many of the water nymphs were going back in the river. Violet sat down next to Antoni, who was breathing hard.

“Mom, Dad, are you two alright?”

Ophelia finished cleaning her partner’s wounds. “Yes, we’re both okay. I see you got to safety.”

Tabitha nodded.

Jain and Theo stayed out of the water to talk to Herbert.

“Well, once again we saved the colony, Herbert.”

“Yes, Jain, although the colonists may not know about this.”

On the shore Antoni and Violet looked towards Herbert and Jain.

“Wow, I take it that Jain became a water nymph and that’s why she’s considered missing.”

Jain smiled at her. “Yep. Herbert helped with my transformation. The best part is that I was able to stay with Theo.”

Theo smiled at her.

Violet looked at everyone. “I’ve heard about you from my grandfather’s memoirs and now we’re all together.”

Tabitha smiled as the sun was rising. “It’s nice to know I’m not the only half water nymph in existence.”

Violet smiled. “Yeah, it’s sometimes rough to look so radically different from most humans.”

“Weren’t you raised by your uncle because both of your parents died?”

“Yeah, and his business partner, Bonnie.”

“Bonnie and Clyde died with his and her bullet holes,” said Antoni.

Violet laughed. “That’s an old Earth legend.”

Herbert chimed in, “Actually it’s true. Back in the American West there was a couple named Bonnie and Clyde who were criminals. They did die from bullet wounds.”

“Uh, Herbert, Violet and I mentioned to one of my crew members that you’re still alive, but no longer human.”

“Oh, you did?”

“Yeah, he did. We figured you’d make an official report about what happened at the castle.”

“I could do that. Thanks to Steve, we have an internet connection here. I can get started on that report and this one too.”

“What’s wrong, grandfather?”

“I think I want Clyde to know I’m alive before I send the reports out.”

“No problem.” Violet smiled.
