Chapter 20 Tabitha Returns
An excerpt from The Violet Series Book 1: The Water Nymph’s Tale.
Violet tapped the side of her glasses and wasted no time contacting her grandfather. He didn’t answer. “Grandfather, this is Violet. Antoni and I are being watched by large animals whom he thinks are were creatures. I can hear them, but I can’t see them well. He’s not sure how he knows they’re were creatures. Please wake up.” She pressed the side of her glasses again and sighed.
“Oh, that doesn’t sound good…”
“He must be sleeping.”
“Must be.” He scanned the area around them. “Someone is walking towards the preserve.”
“At this time of night? Who is it? I can’t see them.”
“I don’t know. One of the water nymphs back from pulling a prank?”
“Probably.” He watched more closely. “She seems like she might be a were creature or even a water nymph like you.”
“A half water nymph, half were creature?” Violet raised her eyebrows.
“Perhaps. Wait, is it Tabitha? Ophelia told me about her daughter and her partner is a werecat.”
“Wait, I can see her light blue skin now. She is a water nymph!” She let out a big sigh.
The were creatures howled again. Violet and Antoni moved their eyes in the direction of the sound.

Tabitha had just came home from work. The sun had set hours ago. It was late, but she didn’t care. She knew Mars and grew up near the preserved river land. She had no reason to be afraid at night. She packed her few things and put them in her backpack.
She set out. The street lights were on all over the city. She smiled as she left and strolled to the preserve. She smiled knowing she would be able to see her parents again and no one would miss her in the city for a few days.
It was peaceful and uneventful until she sensed some were creatures. She saw them near two people sitting on the sand near the river. She tapped her watch computer to alert her parents. She didn’t wait for an answer.
She carefully walked closer to the two sitting near the river and avoided the were creatures. “Do you two need help?”
Violet and Antoni looked at the newcomer.
“Can you see the were creatures?” asked Violet.
“Yes, I can see them and I can sense them.”
Antoni’s eyes got big. “I can, too. How is that you can?”
“My father is a werecat.”
“Oh.”
“You wouldn’t happen to be a were creature, too, would you?”
“What? Me? My parents never said anything about were creatures in the family.”
“And you… You’re half water nymph.”
“Yes, I am.”
“Wait, are you Herbert Mineur’s granddaughter?”
“Yes. I just sent him a message.”
“Good. Then he should be waking up soon.” Tabitha checked her watch. “My parents will be here shortly.”
“So, you’re Tabitha… the other half water nymph.”
“Yes, I am. Pleased to meet you, Violet.” Tabitha smiled.
Violet smiled back.
