Extinction
*A Netflix Original Movie Review
What would you do if you consistently dreamt of being attacked? Not you personally, but your entire race, all that you knew and loved? When an engineer lost sleep, suffering from world-dominated nightmares, he tries his best to warn those he loves that something is coming. They don’t listen...

Extinction was Netflix’s release back in July. A man plagued with alien invasion nightmares, he feels he’s losing his mind. He can’t sleep, he suffers blackouts and his wife demands he see a therapist. But when what he’s seen turns from dream to reality, everyone wishing they’d listened. What ensues turns the world upside down and sends the viewer into an unexpected tailspin.
As I watched the movie, I began to think of movies like Skyline (not that crap sequel version either!) and Independence Day (first movie!). The sound FX were totally cool, making me think I was going to fall in love. Then I noticed the actual aliens. First I pondered what they were doing, other than killing people left and right. The invading aliens, who seemed to be wearing boots, and... crotch plating? I thought to myself, usually intelligent/invading life forms don’t have genitalia that obvious! I’m not going to go into the discovery that bummed me out, but I was right, yet I wasn’t.
What’s good about Extinction is the twist. You do not catch what’s happening until you’re told. At least I didnt. It’s unreal what takes place, making it an interesting flick but reminded me of Total Recall. Heck, I can’t say anymore! If keep going, I’ll be offering SPOILERS. I liked what was done but I guess I wasn’t that thrilled with the movie as a whole. So did I like it? Yeah, I did- but I didn’t.
They didn’t waste money on FX, it was all done well, but I guess the jury is still out on this one. If I had to give stars for my rating, I’d probably give it a 3.5 or 4. If you have a Netflix account, watch it. Let me know what you think.
I’m on to the next read/movie. Cheers!
