When It's Raining, It's Pouring
I don’t mean the weather, although that has been rather moist too as of late. No, it’s about those pesky story submissions. You write them, you send them in, and then you wait. And wait, and wait. So after months of nothing, I got three acceptances within a week’s time. Needless to say, I’m chuffed.
Last Stop is a novella accepted by Samhain Publishing. The protagonists are Sam and Jay, a bear and a twink, who are thrown together by chance. The sexual attraction is immediate, but both have good reasons for not wanting to get emotionally involved. They also both have pasts, and when Sam’s catches up with him, all hell breaks loose. There is romance, suspense, villainous villains, and light BDSM.
River Guide was accepted by Cleis for the Sexy Sailors anthology, edited by Neil Plakcy. Short stories are hard to write. For this call I needed an erotic story under 5,000 words. So naturally, my characters went rogue, demanding a sweet, romantic tale of at least three times the length. I finally gave up on trying to make them behave and scrapped that story, and wrote this one in two days, barely making the deadline. The new story is about two men who meet on a Chicago river boat.
Academic Pursuits is a James Lear-inspired sexcapade with lots of humorous banter, and a light thread of romance. It will be published by Amber Allure, probably at the end of January. The hero is Jamie, a student in a fictional university in a fictional Midwestern town. He has a hard time keeping it in his pants, and has penchant for straight boys. This one was loads of fun to write – I hope it’ll be as much fun to read too.
I like a contrast in stories, bears and twinks, age difference, etc. It spices things up, makes interesting character dynamics.
There is a Christmas short story I’m finishing up, and there’s one more short story I need to write this year, otherwise it’s going to be mostly editing.
