Stepping Back

Stepping Back

First, let me apologize for not putting a blog out the past two weeks. Life likes to get in the way sometimes! Hopefully, now, things have settled down and I continue to move forward.

During the past two weeks, I spent a few days at my final author conference for the summer. Once again, I learned some amazing things and now I’m trying to process through it all.

So why title this stepping back if it seems I’m moving forward?

Sometimes, the hardest lessons are the ones where you learn a few reasons why your book isn’t getting traction and the numbers and sales aren’t happening.

Did I have a bit of a pity party when I discovered these reasons? Yes…for about five minutes.

The great thing about this conference is that there were people there to catch you when you fell. Emma may not be what she should be right now (and since I decided to turn her into a series that is actually okay), but she will be thanks to a graphic designer I met. He took the time to explain to me what needed to be done. Can’t wait to get started with him!

I also had the pleasure of meeting an author who likes to give back. What I mean is this…I was told by three different people I needed to talk to her because of my new plan for Emma. Thanks to her taking the time with me, I have an amazing series mapped out and can’t wait to get it going (Okay, I know I should have started already. Did I mention I’m still trying to get back to normal?) She’s also agreed to be my mentor during this process. I feel really lucky to have her on my team.

There are a lot of other things going on as well…

I’m redoing my website. I’m pulling my books that have already been done and starting over. I’m going to reach out to more opportunities for events. I am working on a creating a team of people that will help me move this journey forward in a positive way.

So, yes, in a way I’m having to step back in order to move forward again. It’ll be worth it though, I think. I’m hoping so, anyway. One lesson I have learned in all of this is that you can’t move without being willing to correct a few mistakes. So, here I go!
