Relax and Rejuvenate

First off, I have to apologize as due to technical difficulties, I haven’t posted a blog in about 3 weeks. That being said, I’m back and hope to be blogging as scheduled.

Do you remember the last time you felt completely refreshed. I recently came back from vacation and am marveling out how refreshed I feel. It has strangely made me super productive and motivated. This sounds like common sense but my reason for asking this question to begin with is because I find it rare that working folks (and especially parents) take time for themselves to relax and rejuvenate. Even in speaking to retirees, I find it frequent that they are stressed out about some issue or another. Most often than not, these issues involve their families and concern about the future or their financial wellbeing.

So, why do we do this to ourselves? I don’t have the answer to that but I can tell you that in this fast paced world, it is very easy for us to simply forget ourselves. We tend to put work and our families first. I had a conversation with my mom this past week and she mentioned getting Lasik surgery. Now I’ve been wearing contacts since I was 11 and the thought of not using them anymore sounds amazing, but when it comes to shelling out several thousand dollars (and I realize the price has come down) to pay for my eyes, I just find it hard to justify spending that on me. And I really don’t think I’m the exception to the rule.

What I will stress after these couple weeks on vacation is the need for us to think big picture. Going back to my Lasik example, several years of contacts would more than pay for my surgery so while I am shelling out money in the short-term, I’d make it up in the long-term and that would benefit my family. The same thing comes for us taking time to relax and rejuvenate yourself. Sure it may cost money to do so, but the benefits your family and friends with reap as they deal with a happy you may be well worth it. Not to mention, you will probably find your productivity goes up.

Happy writing this week!
