Time, Time, Time. See What’s Become of Me…By Ripley Proserpina

You know how people will say, “I’m a morning person?” Or, “I’m a night owl?” And there are all these ways to figure out when you are most productive? Well. I recently figured out my golden period of productivity, and let’s just say, it’s not great.

I’ve always known I’m not a morning person. But I also don’t like to sleep beyond 7:30.

And I’ve known I’m not a night owl, because I want to be asleep by 9:30.

In case you’re thinking, “She’s just old…” I will let you know, I was born old. In elementary school, I used to put myself to bed. When other little kids liked to stay up late on summer nights because it was still light, I’d check the clock on the microwave and be like, “Well… that’s it for me.”

Recently, around 7:30 in the evening, I noticed I was getting this little burst of energy. I was ready to write, and if I did, I was super productive. I could bang out words like…someone way faster than I usually am.

The problem is in my family, 7:30 is not great for alone time. There’s dinner and snacks and neighbors and dogs and husbands (as an aside, there is only one husband…even if I do write reverse harem) coming home from work.

Anyway—even if I don’t get to be productive during that time, at least I know when it is. Perhaps in the future, I won’t feel guilty when I can only get a few pages of writing done during the day, because, duh, it’s not my brain’s favorite.

That’s a good excuse, right?

Curious about your most productive time? Here’s a quiz!
