I ran into some author (I think) page today, which listed his first influence as HST. No joke. Is there another?

Just googled and it could be Hunter S Thompson, but it's weird that the GR guy wrote out the names of the others and only used the initials for this one. Wish I remembered the name.

BTW, that film was compelling, but it's as art house as you can get.

Borges view of time leaking through multi-dimensions and ersatz textures reminds me that I have to take a piss somewhere. GR seems an appropriate place to baptize.

Ain't it a bitch that after GR's fee imposition for giving away books, all the cheapskates can get is the really crappy, desperate shit?

OMG. Someone actually paid some attention. Shit. When no one is, like usual, you can say anything you want. Shit. Fair exception is taken to "usually" however.

Hey, wanna hear something funny? I googled for "evil male names" to come up with Desmond and Caligari. But they also had both Arthur and Graham, though they spelled the latter some other way.

If you ever have to destroy papers, like those containing your social security number, don't bother with a shredder. It takes forever, and if you just run them through your washing machine, you got paper mache. There's a five minute clean up, but it's great if you have loads of old papers.

Ever notice how the GR and other "social media" geniuses have loads of Libtard armchair advice on how to make a better world; politics, social mores, gender perceptions, political correctness. Hehehe. Then they wonder why Trump won.

Anybody else think that the people on GR are getting serious lately? Personally, I think that William Vollmann has killed them and substituted his sock puppets in one last try for popularity. You know, the man has a point. We have become dependent upon oil, and it has some bad effects. No shit.

Presuming Muslims were indeed behind 9/11, and presuming they did it for the officially accepted reasons, we have no one but ourselves to blame if you are able to recall the past century of Western interference in the Arab world. And that's not even counting how many twin towers' worth of dead Iraqi and Afghan civilians we've managed to fill in the years since then, so in other words, FUCK YOU DUMB-ASS.

I've heard the conspiracy theories and no lie, they are the only ones I find compelling other than JFK. But, they are theories, and after all that has taken place since, they don't matter in a sense. What would change if we were now assured that some US government element co-operated in the implementation? When it happened, and before all the subsequent events, they should have investigated it half as much as they do Trump.

I know it can be faked, but right after there were weekly tapes from Bin Laden taking credit. The tapes stopped when he said something the authorities didn't want said; something like; "The war has started. We have no illusions about winning. But, we will bankrupt them." Sounds pretty accurate.

The Liberals of 2018 have a very annoying habit of presuming that the US, and now add Putin, are the only ones capable of subterfuge and dirty tricks. With or without the co-operation of the US the Muslim-Arab world has been a violent one since history has been recorded. And one is a troll if they point out that Mohammed killed 700 people.

LIBTARD DIPSHIT.

message 23: by [deleted user] (last edited Aug 06, 2018 11:55AM) (new)

I might mention a hand-wringing Libtard I read yesterday. "Oh, those poor little Muslims migrating to escape a horrendous war." Shit. It's their kids and relatives who have chosen to fight it. And if you think those poor migrants do not include Jihadists infiltrating the countries they hate, wake the fuck up and pretend you have some common sense.

The way they go on about the fascist US policies. They spend 90% of their spiel on Hitler and WWII, clearly indicating that their outlooks on the present are extremely thin and have to resort to predicting that Deja will soon Vu. One prominent GR Liberal reviewer more than a year ago predicted that Trump was about to usurp all power by starting a Reichstag fire. Isn't it still a crime to call in a false alarm?

AND JUST ON GENERAL PRINCIPLES, FUCK YOU, FUCK GR, FUCK USELESS REVIEWERS, FUCK THE SCUMBAG WORLD OF LOW SELLING BOOKS, FUCK THE EASILY INDUCED HOMO-EROTIC LIMITATIONS OF CODY, FUCK ILLEGAL ALIENS, FUCK MOHAMMED AND SHARIA LAW, FUCK THE RELIGIOUS RIGHT, FUCK WHITE SUPREMACISTS, FUCK THOSE WHO QUOTE HITLER, FUCK NAZIS, FUCK FASCISTS, FUCK THE LIBTARD POLITICALLY CORRECT POLICE, FUCK THE 2018 LIBTARDS WITH THEIR 1968 CALENDAR, FUCK HEAVY METAL, AND FUCK EVERYONE I CAN'T THINK OF AT THE MOMENT. "Recreational colonoscopy" is a great phrase which I fully intend to use someday, unattributed. It's legal.

Yeah, there's been some violence over here too, but we don't generally attribute any to Jesus, just a tad on David, and who would have thought that a slingshot would take out that big fuck.

Shortened story; chanced on some about how white settlers treated the Native Americans. No surprise there, but the PhD writer kind of apologized for them saying that they needed the money and that it wasn't personal, as these guys would have been killing each other if there were no Native Americans available. Bet they migrated here from Europe.

Arthur wrote; "Presuming Muslims were indeed behind 9/11, and presuming they did it for the officially accepted reasons, we have no one but ourselves to blame if you are able to recall the past century of Western interference in the Arab world."

Sorry, got on the more common tract. OK, guess you're referring to some sort of guilt the US should have for "meddling" in Arab affairs. And not only guilt, but an obligation caused thereby to put up with shit now. Beyond the simple and obvious,"moral" considerations are to me as recreational colonoscopies are to you; certainly when large world issues are the subject.

Quoting Jean Renoir, through Octave in "The Rules of the Game," "The problem is that everyone has their good reasons." No debate is going to settle them. Everyone just has to cut the shit now. It's collectively and individually in their own best interest.

To me, the most clear villain here is Bin Laden. Even if there was US co-operation, he seems to have been involved. Further, his post 9-11 communications indicate an ability to look into the future. That's not freaky. Though I was below average, I played enough chess to know that one can force an opponent's move. Bin Laden should have seen and I think did see that his actions would cause tremendous suffering for his own people, which they would not have otherwise encountered. If I'm not giving him too much credit, he was wrong and evil.

But, that no longer matters, beyond him being viewed as the most significant person of the 21st century.

Excuse me. May not post a book blurb today as I don't have anything on politics. Well, there's the mayor guy from "Blasé Eight" who is in it to get a kickback on the town garbage contract who thinks he's doing the town a favor because ………………….

The context required would be both lengthy and obvious.

Joseph Ridgwell made it to HST. I think again, as I might recall that name from somewhere; maybe the local arrest reports. But, no matter, he and his Lit Fiends are now at some kind of chaotic arts festival in Edinburgh where no one pays any attention to the artists, probably a demonstration of taste.

Joseph started out writing this very well, for a moment making me think that HST had started a Farrar, Straus, and Giroux division. But with each drink the good old HST attraction became more and more apparent. I didn't consider this Joseph's best writing, but put it here because it was obvious that he was trying to talk about me in the second part.

"The people were all there to say that they had been there – not to watch anything. And maybe they were right. For as an unjuried festival there is no quality control. This means that anyone with enough bees and honey to pay the extortionate
reg fees can get up on stage and play out some weird fantasy
masochistic – one day I’ll be famous crappola. "

Okay, Joe. Just lisenup a minute. I only do that weird masochistic fantasy crapolla on GR, where it's free, so far. Got that? If my wife gets any notion that I'm paying for this I'll be making "The Hustler" look like he had a hangnail.

So readers, give Edinburgh a try, and don't let the eloquent opening put you off.

That wasn't sarcastic. I looked at what Amazon allowed me to preview, and it sounded pretty interesting; a nice blend of quantum with silliness. The readable portion was cut short by the ads for your other books at the end.

Yeah, and maybe even everywhere "artists" go to preen now. The former potential fans are not paying much attention as they're busy preening too.

Thought Ridgwell was pretty insightful, and able to convey it without sounding preachy. When he feels like it he can throw off some excellent prose too.

Thanks. Will be checking it out a bit later.

"Fuck England," I said. "This is Middle America. These people regard what you're doing to them as a brutal, bilious insult. Look what happened last night. I thought my brother was going to tear your head off."

Steadman shook his head sadly. "But I liked him. He struck me as a very decent, straightforward sort."

"Look, Ralph," I said. "Let's not kid ourselves. That was a very horrible drawing you gave him. It was the face of a monster. It got on his nerves very badly." I shrugged. "Why in hell do you think we left the restaurant so fast?"

So many parts worthy of copying here. Can't now imagine why I didn't like him at the time. My wife did, as well as Tom Wolf, the latter quite fine with me. Wolf seems mostly disregarded in 2018. So, fuck the disregarders.

On a technical level, like how he backtracks through conversation, into something in the very recent past. A+ stuff most of the time. Thanks again.

A consideration for the worrying writer. Whatever your book is, some not necessarily more than sub-marginal, low IQ critic can easily point out what it is not. Kind of easy if one wants to. Duh.

If you take this seriously, rather than a possible indication of the reviewer's frustration with his-her inability to actually do something not entirely derivative, you lose; and you can spend decades telling your disinterested psychiatrist about it.

If that's not what you seek, you can either ignore them or despite this being taken as a false indication that you care, say "FUUUUUCKK YOOOOOOOOOOO DOOOOOD."
