My review for Rule by Ellen Goodlett.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I received an ARC and this doesn't in any way influence my opinion on it.

I just love it when I read great books like this. Rule by Ellen Goodlett is one helluva epic book.
It's about the kingdom of Kolonya and it's many tribulations.
The King is dying, sicked by a deadly and incurable disease. With his only son, the heir to the throne murdered, there's no one left to inherit the throne.
As it turns out, King Andros does have three illegitimate daughters sequestered in different parts of the kingdom. These three girls unaware of the Royal heritage grew up in different circumstances and with different upbringings.
Zofi, the wild Traveler who with her family/band of drifters never stay in one place. They're made for moving.
Akeylah, the abused Eastern girl desperate to get away from the villainous man who raised her and her venomous siblings.
And Florencia, the devious maid who was taught by her mother to scheme and play the game of the court.
The lives of the three of them is forever changed when they're recognised as heirs to the throne.
Each has a stake in being chosen and only one of them shall be made Queen.
But these girls each have deadly secrets that if revealed will mean their ruin. They've each inadvertently screwed the Kingdom over.
And someone knows their dark secrets. This mysterious and anonymous blackmailer wants them gone and away from the kingdom.
The three girls are either going to band together to face down their enemy or let mistrust tear them apart and lead to their demise.
While the dangerous game goes on, they have a lot to contend with. Zofi with her devastating secret and the consequence on the boy she loves, Akeylah with her deep feelings for the most unavailable woman in the kingdom, Ren with her ex-lover who betrayed her and his reentrance into her chaotic life.
These sisters find love, secrets, familial bond, deceits and just who they can be.
I love the magic system of this series, it's refreshingly original. Using blood tithes to control the body and the way it magic can be enhanced by magic is pretty great.
I commend Ellen Goodlett for weaving a world which a reader will be reluctant to leave.
It has just the right does of action, magic, romance, drama and supernatural creatures (Hey Stormwings!!).
The pace is perfect for a breezy nice read. YA Fantasy fans will not be disappointed. Plus there's so many tidbits dropped here and there that spells great things for the final book in the duology.
I happily recommend Rule and I can hardly wait for the next book.
P.S: It ends on a major cliffhanger, brace yourselves.
