Polaris Rising Polaris Rising by Jessie Mihalik

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received an arc from the publisher but this doesn't influence my opinion on it.

description

After the bundle of amazingness that is Polaris Rising, this series is obviously poised to be one of my favorites of all time.
Polaris Rising is about Ada von Hasenberg. Ada is the sixth child out of nine in the Von Hasenberg household. In a futuristic world where the world is ruled by a body of High Houses called the Consortium. There are three major houses, House Von Hasenberg, House Yamado and House Rockhurst.
As Ada is not high on the inheritance line, she's expected to be of use to her House by marrying well. About to be betrothed to the dastardous Richard Rockhurst despite her vehement disagreement, Ada flees her home.
As an adult she should be able to choose her partner especially after the disaster that two of her elder sisters marriages has been.
Due to her brilliant scheming, sharp mind and valuable friends, she successfully flees into the murkier parts of the universe. There's so many planets to get lost in.
Growing up as a Von Hasenberg, Ada had a lot of training. Fighting, Computer skills, Using her mind, Spying etc. The Von Hasenberg children are very equipped, their cold father saw to that. These skills helped Ada survive at first until she began to hone them and came into her own.
For two blissful years, Ada was free. She ventured to many places, lived many lives with different identities and saw the world clearly for what it is.
This all ends when she was inevitably captured by someone eager to collect the plentiful bounty her father placed on her head.
She is held captive with another famous and sinfully sexy prisoner, Marcus Loch, the Devil of Fornax Zero. He is famed to be a rake and vicious killer.
Ada was careful with him but desperate to work with him towards their freedom.
Marcus is complex and deadly but they both tentatively agreed to help each other while scheming in their own minds of course, plus it required a heavy fee on Ada's part.
Thanks to a timely attack by Richard Rockhurst and his team of soldiers, Ada and Loch barely escapes.
This leads to an entertaining but vicious cat and mouse game for Ada and Richard that spans the universe. He plans to capture her as his bargaining chip against her father plus to manipulate her into marriage.
Ada and Loch make an efficient team as they slowly get to know each other. The sizzling attraction and hot chemistry doesn't quite help things as but are still unsure whether betrayal from the other is imminent, but they still had to same endgame. Ada free on and the run and Loch paid and on his way.
Unfortunately for them, fate had other plans. They get stuck on the Tau Sagittarii Dwarf Nine planet with Richard and his men hot on their tails.
This adventure leads to finding game changing secrets, forming a formidable team with people who are also poised to change their world, more fighting, super hot sex and amazing camaraderie.
I love the various things Ada and Loch go through and how they both progressed as characters, Ada becoming more trusting and involving people in her life, Loch becoming less closed off and allowing himself to care once more.
This action is so amped up and I love it. I love how brilliant and badass ALL the female characters are, with the vast number of great characters and lush world that has been built, there is great potential for the future of this series. I applaud Jessie Mihalik for perfectly crafting that.
The SciFi is an ode to the geek in me. From deadly cool tech to spaceships to stargates to nanobots to genetical engineering, there is plenty for the science fiction fans and it is all easily explained.
The pace is perfect as it helped me devour it more.
I am amazed by the many crazy twists and turns and how easy it was to follow. The ending was the climax of so many events that made up for one freaking epic finale.
The story of Ada and Loch is a beautiful tale that must not be missed, their all defying love will be a favorite!!.
I can't wait for the next book and the characters involved, I am sure it's gonna be so good!!
