Character Interview Devika: Welcome, Oliver. I’m so excited to have you over. Please have a seat.
Oliver: Hello. It’s a pleasure to be here.
Devika: Oliver, I’m curious to find out more about you. Can you describe yourself in 5 words?
Oliver: Quick, creative, reclusive, spiritual, and Other.
Devika: Okay. What about your job? What do you do for a living, and is it your dream job?
Oliver: I am an artist. I guess you could say I have quite the following, or at least my manager George would say so with the exhibits we’ve had across the world, and how many paintings I’ve sold. Yes, I think it is a dream career, at least in the fact that it gives me purpose and a level of peace I haven’t found in a while.
Devika: I see. So how did you meet Myah?
Oliver: (Grimaces.) She was with another man when I first saw her. We didn’t officially meet that night. She doesn’t remember the other meeting either, though she kissed me. (Blushes a little.) What she recalls, well, I wish she didn’t. I regret that the bastard took her money and roughed her up before I got there.
Devika: Fascinating. Will you share with us what being a vampire means to you?
Oliver: For a long time, it was hell on earth. A nightmare. But then, I found my kind, and I learned what being an Other was about. I found a purpose in what I am. My job is to protect other supernaturals, to prevent exposure to humans. To help the Others in any way I can.
Devika: Tell us more about yourself. What’s your biggest fear and biggest dream?
Oliver: My greatest fear is scaring Myah away from all of this. My dream is to find a greater purpose in my life, to avoid the solitary journey I’ve found myself in.
Devika: That makes sense. If you could change one thing about your life, what would it be?
Oliver: I guess I’d like to settle down someday, find an Other, at least some female who will tolerate me long enough to create a family. Even if we can’t have children, I can accept that. As long as together we are a family. I really miss my family from the past, but maybe there’s hope to start a new one.
Devika: Okay. Would you say you enjoyed being a Hunter more than your current vampire life?
Oliver: While I was a Hunter, I trained new recruits on how to better control their powers, and hunted those who violated our rules. It gave my life purpose. After our jobs were obsolete, I lost some of who I am. I guess you could say through painting, I’ve recovered myself.
