A Plan

Why are goals so hard for us to reach at times? It’s not all the time and sometimes it really depends on the goal, but those larger, life changing goals really seem very difficult simply due to all the distractions that life puts in the way. Sure the goals themselves can be difficult. After all, they are meant to be life changing or at least impactful. But even more than that is our own inability to focus. I find this true in my own life as I try to plan out and stick to a larger theme or path so to speak.

My day job allows me to meet people who do this all the time. What I find is that we get the mechanics of the small things. Like for instance, people can figure out how to buy or sell bonds and stocks but do they know why they are doing it the way they are doing it? Most don’t. Even us writers. A lot of times, you aim to write because the idea of becoming a famous author is just so cool but there is so much more to it and it really doesn’t happen overnight for most (if at all). Sure there are planners versus those who simple write without planning but when you are dealing on a larger level about where you see yourself going or how you want to evolve, it requires a bit more thought.

My advice? Think about what you want in life and then draw out the plan to get there. It doesn’t mean things won’t change or that you couldn’t possibly change your mind. It happens and then you simply adjust. Not only will it help you get where you want to go but it’s make you more adaptable overall.

Good luck and happy writing this week!
