Beyond Skyline, 2017
When I head they finally made a follow up to the amazing Skyline of 2010, I prayed it would be as good, with a better ending. I'd purchased Skyline on both dvd and in my iTunes collection. Beyond Skyline had to provide just as much action, along with an explanation that would give a great ending and remove me from the eight year limbo I'd been sitting in. Did it work? #element-15e0e4fd-777f-4460-a0b2-b8c5320efc14 .waddons-blog-image.hideImage { display: none;}
Yes and no. Beyond Skyline sorta picks up where Skyline left off, only it takes place when the original movie began. Remember when those blue balls of light fell from the sky in the first movie? Well that's when this begins, only it goes deeper. We get to go inside one of the ships when you first saw people being vacuumed into the air. Good right?Wrong. The drones being created look different first off. They were made with three, beady sets of eyes. Beyond Skyline, they had two sets that sorta blink. Sorta. And then, though Elaine looks different, she's not just days pregnant but three months... How'd that happen in three days time? The movie explains so I can't... Just know that it makes science fiction sense. Also, Jarrod is still protecting her. Aww, love is still grand.
But in this one, it's not about Elaine and Jarrod, but Mark and his son, who was taken aboard before him. And then it gets weird. Stuff happens and they end up in a place that had me just bummed. Then from there, the movie lost me. BUT I was given a full explanation- erm, a science fiction explanation on why the aliens were there and what the initial attack was all about.
Beyond Skyline is a fun movie. The FX are still pretty good, just not as good as the first movie. You can tell where they went cheap, like with most of the acting. Then some of the fights scenes didn't make much sense. The alien drones are supposed to be like seven and eight feet tall, but when they fought, the aliens are barely a shoulder above in height. As previously mentioned, the acting isn't as good either, which made it a bit boring and bland after the ship scenes, but I admit- I bought the movie. I'm a sucker for closure. Sure me! LOL
Anyway, check out Beyond Skyline. The first movie is still the best, by far, but you'll be entertained. Just ignore the lame, last like 40 minutes and you'll be cool.
Cheers!
