Harry Potter and the Cursed Child opens on Broadway

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has officially opened on Broadway, at the newly refurbished Lyric Theatre, after its magical opening gala performance on Sunday, April 22nd.

The New York Post reported that ‘Broadway’s never seen anything like it!’, with the New York Times declaring that the play in two parts “…raises the bar for Broadway magic. A remarkable production of all-consuming enchantment.”

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. The critically acclaimed production received its world premiere in July 2016 at the Palace Theatre in London where it continues to play to sold out houses.

On Monday 23rd April, a new release of tickets for the Broadway production were made available, for performances up until March 2019. For the latest news and information about Cursed Child on Broadway, head over to the Cursed Child website or www.pottermore.com

Terra I wish they would just stop producing this, or at least would write "fanfiction with OOC moments" under the title :(
Reading this play was making me so sad and frustrated. But I bet the actors and the team is great :) I just wish the story and the characters would make sense :(

Sincerely it all made sense when you see the play ! I just saw the play in London few days ago and I realised I didn't understand 10% when reading... There are so much feelings that you forget the pitfalls of the story^^

I'm sure that's the magic of theater and the great work of actors! because the plot is just so bad, and characters are not themselves at all!

message 9: by Sebastian (new)

Sebastian Hetman We've been to see it in London, but it isn't really worth it. While visually stunning, the story has little of the original Harry Potter charm. The young protagonists' attempts at humor are just a hurr-durr embarassment.

message 10: by Henry (new)

Henry Stradford Bring it to Tokyo :)

message 11: by Alan (new)

Alan Braswell The biggest conversation dealt with the cost of production which ran to 68 million.
Yes it is not the same as the Harry Potter series because the book( script) wasn't written that way. Even though goodreads named a script for a play as a book of the year. People continue and will continue to cash in on the Harry Potter.

message 12: by Pamela (new)

Pamela When is it coming to Los Angeles?

message 13: by Isabella (new)

Isabella I really thought the script nearly ruined Harry Potter for me :(. Sorry, not for me...

message 14: by Nandana (new)

Nandana Can you make it into a movie?

message 15: by Nicole (new)

Nicole I took my kids to see it earlier this month and it was magical! I can't remember the last time I had this much fun at a play. Thanks!

Agree 100%! This was never written by J.K. Rowling, I refuse to believe it.

That's because it wasn't. She only gave it her approval. Will never understand why, though.

That's quite relieving to hear. But I too find it shocking that she approved to that.. I think the actors are great, the story is just shit tho.

Yeah, like Terra said, it's fanfiction with OOC moments. Then again, J.K. isn't the same person she was when she wrote the HP books. She's become quite corporate and opinionated. Can't say I'm too surprised she gave it her blessing. Guess the amount of money she's getting for it outweighs her wanting to stay true to the characters.

It's really nice to see that there are people out there seeing the issues with this book.

Agreed! I was so excited when it came out and it started feeling wrong to me after just reading the first few pages, I simply don't understand how someone who passionately read all the Potter Books could be pleased with The Cursed Child, but well, each to his own I guess.^^

I know that our opinion is kind of the unpopular opinion, and that we're a minority, but yeah that play's got so many issues. It's like the people who wrote it just don't get it, and have never truly read nor analyzed the books thoroughly. And I guess most of the people who read it and liked it just don't really care too much about the details or the characterizations; they might just be in it for the magic and the nostalgia..

Exactly how I felt. But I'm actually really glad this wasn't written by J. K. Rowling, because if it was it would be hard to deny that it's a real part of the Harry Potter Universe. Like this, it's really not much more than some sort of fanfiction.

Anastasia Lee Well, then, I hope I get to see it.. I have the book (it's the script) but it's not the same.. I mean, I love the Harry Potter books, but I also like to see the movies so I can actually see it, know what I mean?
