Unplugged

This past week, I pulled the plug on Facebook. I had been wanting to do that for a few years now but couldn't bring myself to actually cut off my author page. That changed in the wake of current events, which made it much easier for me to take the step that I could never take.

Please don't look for me on Facebook or Twitter. Like MySpace, they were fun at one time, but then they changed and grew and became leeches on my life. I got rid of Twitter last fall.

Now, I am only on G+ and Instagram, but only because I like to share pictures and have a regular blog at Blogspot that is easy to share on G+. I am cutting WAY back on unnecessary activities, even if it means not having the same access.

Maybe it's part of getting older and maybe it's part of the changes I've made to manage my chronic illness. Whatever it is, I feel better unplugging from social media and slowing down. We can all use a little less stress in our lives. Right?

Besides, now, instead of quick comments online, my thinking is switching back to longer expressions of my thoughts, and writing is flowing better again. There's something about social media that can really interfere with how we process information and express ourselves, among its many other problems.

You can see my cats and horse on Instagram @melanienilles_author and read my regular blog posts at the link above or by checking me out at G+ at +melanienillesauthor .
