Welcome to my Beer Bar Jessica!
What can I pour you to start?
Thanks for having me here Liz! I must admit that I normally don't drink beer, but I'm willing to try almost anything once. Do you have anything fruity?Shakes fist at the heavens....NO! Jesus. I know, I'm biased. Sorry.Ok, how about one of the beers I actually brewed: Wench's West Side Wheat. a little lighter in body, still pretty hoppy (bitter) and made by mine own hands--well as much as my brewer let's me get my hands on it anyways.
Your books have a real "ET" sorta vibe to them. What made you inspired to write "alien love stories?"
I started writing a superhero book for my daughter - we're big superhero fans in my house - to encourage her to read. And since my favorite superhero is Superman, my characters were automatically aliens. Eventually, I took out the character's super powers, added sexual tension and more. ;) Needless to say, the story became unsuitable for my daughter to read. And since then, the alien romances (or science fiction romances) have just come to paper easier for me. Even my contemporary erotic romance, Beneath the Starry Sky has a scifi twist to it.
What was the first book you got published? That would be Celestial Seduction, my science fiction romance which is a part of Decadent Publishing's popular 1 Night Stand series. Here's the blurb: [image error]
This sounds pretty cool to me....I'll admit I've never tried a Sci Fi Sexy book but yours will likely be the first.
What is your favorite book you've had published?Well, Celestial Seduction is the only story I've had published and will always hold a place in my heart for that reason, but I have three others contracted. The first story I ever wrote was The Zurian Child, now contracted with Silver Publishing. Also, Unknown Futures is the first F/F romance I had contracted. I'm sure there will be many more firsts along the way and each will earn their own special place. I guess that was like asking me to pick my favorite child.Congrats on the contract with Silver! I hear a lot of good things about them. And of course you know I love Decadent...
Wow--you drank that fast...what's next?Yes, another first for me. I think this time I'll try your pumpkin brew.Good choice---it's amazing.
You are Canadian, eh? I am proudly Canadian, and I do say eh a lot. :)Do you love hockey? My favorite hockey team is the Ottawa Senators, although I'm not an obsessed fan or anything. I've been a fan since the team started, mostly because I refused to be a Toronto fan like my father and brother. And I just happened to have a crush on Alexander Daigle at the time.bummer...Go Red Wings.. (although Hockey is right above "golf" as far as favorite sports for me....I hate a sport where I can NEVER EVER see the ball/puck.)
Bacon? I do like bacon, but I don't eat it all that often. I eat Canadian (or peameal) bacon very rarely. Can you pronounce the word "About" properly?About - LOL I don't pronounce it 'a-boot'. And a roof is a roof, not a ruff. The word that I laugh about all the time is foyer. I grew up pronouncing the 'er' like a long a. That could be the french influence though. What makes you distinctly Canadian?I don't think there's anything that makes me distinctly Canadian. I listen to some Canadian music and watch some Canadian television shows, but we're very influenced by American culture up here. I do find though that for television shows, I prefer those based in New York or the Northern states that get snow, as I can relate to them more.
In my writing though, I usually have a story set in Canada or a character from Canada.
What are you reading right now?Blown Away by D.L. Jackson. It is two scifi romance/military novellas filled with action, tension and lots of hot sex, everything I love in a story.
Do you have a "day job" other than handling mom chores? Don't get me wrong--that IS the most draining and under-appreciated "day job" there is--I know, I've done it. Just wondering if you try and fit anything else in around kids and writing.LOL, I have more kids. I provide day care to a couple of other families. It definitely keeps me busy. Cool. When my first 2 were small and I still did marketing for an Art Center I had a lovely home-based day care provider. She is still a good friend even after all these years.
Do aliens have sex like humans? My aliens do. LOL Although there is much speculation, no one knows what life on other planets looks like. In alien romances, I find it easier to enjoy the sex scenes if I can related to them, in both reading and writing them. I'm still not quite sure what to do with tentacles. I can think of a few things, but I can't see myself wanting to get it on with those aliens.Good call. That whole "hook up the tails" thing in Avatar....weird. Unsexy.
How do you promote your books? There are so many ways. I'm lucky enough to have so many author friends, including yourself, willing to host me on their blogs. I also have my own blog and post on my publisher's blog. I participate in Six Sentence Sunday, am on twitter, facebook, goodreads, and google+. I also hold contests.
Speaking of which, I'd like to offer an ebook copy of Celestial Seduction. I will choose the winner using Random.org from anyone who leaves a comment on this post. The contest will end (two days from the post day) and is international.
Ok, a nightcap--what's your poison?First of all, thank you so much Liz for having me! Oh, I'm already tipsy. Yes, it doesn't take much. I'll have whatever, but someone's going to have to help me to a cab when I'm done.Lightweights...I'm surrounded by lightweights. Makes me feel like a lush. But that's ok. I'll train you kids up right.
Thrilled to have you Jessica! Good luck with all your releases....Here is some pretty cover art....

At the end of his obligated commitment to the Space Service, Frey Berger decides to stay on Earth to further experience human emotions rather than return to Ginnun where his intended has already mated with another. Looking for real love and someone to accept him for what he is, Frey enlists in Madame Evangeline's popular dating service. Although he does not understand the concept of a one-night stand, he hopes to find his perfect mate.
Carrie Cooper's husband divorced her for someone who could provide him with children, leaving her with little self-confidence and no desire to let a man hurt her again. Her best friend convinces her to join a dating service, claiming Carrie needs to get laid, while not winding up with a broken heart since her date requires no commitment after the night is over.
Although several misunderstandings nearly derail them before the date has even begun, Carrie and Frey end up becoming closer than they ever believed possible. Still, Frey will need to convince Carrie that her perfect mate isn't human at all, and that one night can lead
to a forever love.
