I loved Annihilation. It’s really a shame that more people aren’t hearing about it and going to see it.
I saw a preview for it a while back. Two seconds in all I saw was a group of people walking toward a shimmering wall. With only that, I turned to my wife and said: “Crap, they made a movie off Annihilation. It was that recognizable.
Yeah, I knew it was going to be a conceptually difficult movie for people to follow. I still thought it was really good. It drastically departed from the book, I felt, but somehow did it in a way that utterly kept to the book. That probably doesn’t make sense, but I’m kind of comfortable with that for this movie/book.
I understand. The studio people didn’t really know how to present this to people. Some people are really going to get into it and some people just aren’t going to be comfortable with this kind of thing, wanting firmer ground to mentally stand on. Still, I think it is all the more worth seeing for how little it is like all the other stuff that comes out.
I think there’s a lot of people who would really dig this one. It just may be one that people hear about more and get into later.
I’m still thinking about it.
