The Crazy World We Live In

We live in a crazy world. I know there are so many ways you can take those words. We are crazy busy, crazy growing, crazy dangerous in some ways and crazy cutting edge innovative… I can keep going in some many different directions. But what I’m really referring to today is how our world seems to blend the stuff of fiction and the stuff or real life. I pull open a newspaper (or pull it up online), turn on the radio, look a podcast—I mean you name it as far as how you want to get your updates on the world around you. You listen and you have to wonder whether you are hearing the stuff of some eighties or nineties action thriller or whether this stuff is really going on. Not to mention how much these ongoings paralyze those around us.

I happen to work in finance and I spend quite a bit of time talking with folks about the markets. These days, that topic has people panicked more than before. I feel like I’m flashing back to conversations I had in 2008 and perhaps it’s possible that while our world has seen a lot of growth since our Great Recession, that 2008 timeframe is not as distant in our minds as we’d like to think. In hindsight and in watching movies like The Big Short, one can’t help but think about where the lines between fiction and reality blend and then wonder which one came first?

The truth is each day we live could be a basis for someone’s best seller. It’s about how you tell the story and what story you choose to tell. I’m not trying to play it down because I believe writing that story/telling that story takes talent and skill. There just seems to be an abundance of material out there these days if you are inspired enough to use it.

Happy writing this week!
