It is getting closer. The players are all in the locker room, chattering up a storm and ready to burst onto the literary ice for their big game on February 3. They are all lacing their skates, tugging on their jerseys, and securing their pads into place while anxiously awaiting to make their entrance into the area.

It’s the eve of the National Playoffs. They’ve worked all year for this. This is their lives, their passions. They will give it their all and spare nothing to entertain the crowd that has gathered to see them. They await to entertain and are rewarded by the cheers of their fans. Failure is not an option. If they are knocked down, they will rise.

The Saint Anne Civets have eight championships, but they are eager for one more. The truth is, they love trophies. They are invigorated by victory. This is what they live for. And this is what they are willing to die for.

They believe they are invisible, gods on ice. Since childhood, they’ve been groomed for this. It is all they know. And they are good at it. They were top draft picks and board leaders. So, when something comes to shake their beliefs that they are not the crème de la crème … well…

Hockey is emotional, just like love. It can be enjoyable like love. And it can also hurt like love. But hockey has blueprints, strategies, game plans, and such. Love does not—at least, not any that work out well. Hockey is a game, and love… Well, love is just love.
