Receiving Notes and Making Changes
What is a note you may ask? Notes are feedback given whenever your script is read. I have many, many notes on The Vortex now and take each one to heart, thinking how and if they could make the script better…because while they are extremely valuable, they are also one person’s opinion…unless you get the same note from multiple people!
That happened last week.
A few months ago I received a note about The Vortex’s title – it was too ‘sci fi’ and didn’t let readers know it was going to be a family fantasy/adventure. I thought about it then and when no new titles came to mind immediately, I chose to ignore it…until I received nearly the exact same note from someone else.
Since I’m taking that rewrite class, I tossed it out to the instructor. He suggested I come up with a dozen or so potential titles (good, bad, and ugly) for us to discuss – surprisingly both he and his intern blindly chose the same one.
So what is the NEW working title? Drum roll please…
WORLDS AWAY
The theory behind it is that not only does it show the kids going (worlds away) to the strangeness at their aunt and uncle’s place – but hints at the other worlds as well (Swampy, the land of Mer, fairy realm, etc).
I’d love to hear your thoughts!
