Skills Update Leads to Improved Books

Hi, everyone. I recently read a very useful book, Are You Still Submitting Your Work to a Traditional Publisher?, by Edward C. Patterson, and it gave me some great ideas. I employed them when I formatted Around the World in 80 Pages, and I really liked how it came out.

One of the things Patterson talks about in his book is doing "maintenance editions" on eBooks. I had done this only once, to be honest, when I discovered a problem with an ePub file. However, I decided to do a new edition of Sui Generis, with a new cover and improved interior formatting.

It was insanely easy, to be honest. I developed a more appealing cover design (the original was pretty dry, I must admit) and then went to work on the inside. Having already worked out the "bugs," so to speak, I knew exactly how I wanted the new piece to look -- and I did it.

It may be a good idea to look at how your formatting skills have improved over time and do maintenance editions on your eBooks. I certainly think it will pay off in the long run.
