Upcoming events: Brazcon and TCETLA

One of my resolutions for 2018 is to be more involved in the Texas writing community. There are so many good writers and readers living in the Lone Star State, but I haven't invested enough time in finding them. I'm righting that wrong later this month!

I just added these events to my calendar. You may know a teacher, reader, or nerd - maybe you are one or all three! - who would like one of these events, so please share. If you're planning to attend, please let me know.

Also. JUPITER'S MOONS! 500 views on that last post. Somebody must have made a New Year's resolution to read more. :)

Seriously, thank you for following along on these journeys. It is an honor and a privilege to have readers, and one that I do not take for granted.

Love and rockets,
- A

PS - Don't miss the throwback New Year's pics at the bottom.

UPCOMING EVENTS

BRAZCON (Teen Comic Convention & Geek-Fest)

It's only the second year of Brazcon, but they're expecting 3,000-5,000 attendees! I'll be on a number of panels at Brazcon this year, as well as doing a standalone presentation on my experience with Kickstarter.  Brazcon is a celebration of graphic novels, comics, manga, and Pop Culture. There's a full day of sessions, workshops, gaming, crafting, cosplay, anime and a whole lot of fun. Activities are based on Marvel, DC, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Dr. Who, Percy Jackson, Star Trek and more.

DATE: Sat, February 3, 2018. 8:45 AM – 4:00 PM CST
LOCATION: Shadow Creek High School
11850 Broadway street
Pearland, TX 77584
TCTELA  (Texas Council of Teachers of English and Language Arts)
They definitely needed the acronym... I've never presented at a teacher's conference before, but my colleague Dr. Reid and I will present on the pastiche model of writing, which allows students to borrow the form of an existing piece of writing and then add their own content. It's how I began writing music and poetry many moons ago.
DATE: Friday, January 26 - Sunday, January 28
LOCATION: San Luis Resort (Galveston)

Bonus pic: from New Year's Day 2013. I celebrated New Year's Eve on a solo flight to Paris and arrived on New Year's Day. In Paris, the streets were deserted, but le Maison de Victor Hugo was open. Les Miserables has always been one of my favorite classic novels, and touching the desk where Hugo wrote his masterpiece made it all the more memorable. My first espresso of the trip, too. The first of many. :)
