abandoned

rags swaddled around grimy skin

battling against frigid air.

body shivering,

hands hold legs tight,

head rocking in and out of knees.

a knock on the door

sends a chill down my spine,

creaking open

as he comes in,

hands me

a box of chocolate

he leaves,

and so do the treats,

only guilt remains.

another knock,

this time places a bouquet

of plucked flowers on my dresser

he leaves,

and the petals wither

as if they never lived.

he barges in,

no knock this time,

lifts me in his arms

embracing my mess

in his tidy suit

the warmth of his kiss,

electrifying,

it resuscitates

my dead soul.
