James Dean's Haunted Car —
Today's the Anniversary of the fateful day.
"Remember drive safely the life you might save might be mine." James Dean told TV viewers in a National Safety Council commercial two weeks before his death.
James Dean was born February 8, 1931. He was nominated for two Academy Awards, for his performances in "East of Eden" and "Giant." Tragically, he was killed in a highway accident on September 30, 1955.
Before he left on that fateful trip, James Dean was seen at The Villa Capri. He was good friends with the kitchen staff and was known to slip in the back door for a quick supper. Like a lot of other historical building in Hollywood, The Villa Capri no longer exists. In its place is an apartment complex.
Many people, including historians and parapsychologists swear something supernatural was at work—that some unseen entity or black magic is responsible for Dean's death. If there was evil at work, there was also perhaps an angel trying to intervene.
James Dean was warned three times to slow down and be careful. He even received a speeding ticket the day he died, but the actor ignored all warnings. Some believe the Porsche 550 Spyder is the root of the evil.
After Dean's tragic accident, the Porsche continued to kill and maim. The CA State Highway Patrol had the mangled car transported to local high schools to teach teenagers the importance of safe driving. The vehicle transporting the Porche was in an accident. The driver George Barhuis was thrown from the cab and the Porsche rolled off the truck bed and on top of him, crushing him to death.
On the anniversary of Dean's death, a fifteen-year old boy was standing by the exhibit when three bolts snapped and the car plowed over him, crushing his legs.
A few weeks later, the car was being transported. It caused another accident when the supports holding it in place snapped and it slid from the flatbed of the truck causing another fatal accident.
The owner having enough decided to have the car shipped back home to California. It was loaded on a boxcar and securely sealed, but when they arrived in L.A., it was gone. Some believe it returned to whatever evil place it came from or perhaps someone exposed of it for once and for all.
There are still claims that people have seen a spectral Porsche, cruising the highway in the area James Dean was killed. Could it be the Porsche 550 Spyder?
