As only an Irish person can Know

"There is a great bit of drying in it" ME BALLIX !

Well is it not really the saying of all sayings, like seriously.
I too am Irish of course and as patriotic as the next fella, however who ever thought that the beautiful country of Ireland can be generously green in nature without all the rain here and there.
The optimistic Irish, always look on the bright side, the dry side would be in this case. People just say the funniest things. One to give you a laugh, perhaps we should just break one of them down and search for an understanding, sure why not ?
"There is great drying in it" now what in God's name is that, like seriously, rain showers are a happening but once to twice and hour and the weather forecaster may just call for "scattered showers" or even "patchy rain" . Now I am not really sure about any individual here reading this so we will call them you, so I am not sure about you. Do you or have you ever gotten clothes dry on a clothes line in one hour ? Or even thirty minutes, which of course would be the time between the patchy, scattered showers. NAH me either.
So when someone says to me in the thick of a winter's month in Ireland "great bit of drying in it" how should I respond ? Ask them are they completely insane? Are they seriously deluded? Or what exactly is wrong with them indeed ?
Too many head scratches there. Great bit of drying, like thank God for small mercy kind of thing, like be thankful for the heavy winds blowing that might just carry your washing into a neighbours garden. Thankful to the point of, if I hang them out and just keep staring out the window I can get them dry and get back out like a track star and recover all the almost dry clothes upon the first droplets arrival. "Sure if they didn't dry that much I can hang them back out in a minute, its only a shower"
OH MY GOD, if Ireland wants to win Olympic medals in the future, add in LAUNDRY nobody can beat the Irish on this, seriously. Out then in then out again the a quick whizz around the dryer a bit of ironing and an airing cupboard, then send the kids out to play "cause it's healthy" and cringe as they slash around in the middle of a soaked field. Ground that has not seen a dry moment for four or five months and probably go another few months yet. Clothes going down in the big soaked gardens and parks of Ireland, destroyed with mud, literally destroyed, "but sure only a bit of mud". Doing it all again tomorrow. Washing machine full, loaded to go and here we go again. A national pastime, can it be called pastime? Chore mat just be a better term. National Chore of Ireland, running back and forth to the washing line. Amazing, totally amazing and then remain so upbeat about it all.
So I can imagine that the bursting optimism about the "great drying" helps to break the truest of all literal meanings in life, Rinse-Repeat, Rinse-Repeat.
Some folks, how do they do it ? Again I have to repeat "great drying in it, ~ me ballix"
