On the Brink

I've been spending the last couple of months laying around, watching TV, fogged on beta blockers. It's what has to happen when they lop you open to replace a bad aortic heart valve, also replace your points, plugs and distributor cap. And extreme boredom is an essential part of the healing process.

I was watching a documentary on the continuing evolution of our species in the modern world, or maybe it was "Keeping Up with the Kardashians", I don't remember. Anyway, they said, she said, I think it was Khloe said- the only yardstick for evolution is the production of "viable offspring". And this got me wondering, then worrying. If you look in the phone book, it's obvious from an evolutionary standpoint the Smiths and the Jones of this world got it going on. Not to mention the Wangs, Garcias, and Li(s). There's tons of them. And they must be viable, they're in the phone book.

But Schwerbrock? Not many of those folks, not anywhere, not in any phone book. What's that say? Am I one of the last of my kind? Are we Schwerbrocks the Dodo Birds of Western Civilization? Are we Schwerbrocks on the brink of extinction? Going out with a whimper instead of a bang like any self respecting Tyrannosaur. Why are we disappearing? More importantly, what would Khloe think of us?
