Wishing Away 2017

I was toward the end of this past week when I realized the end of September was barreling around the corner.  Where the heck did 2017 go? ACK!

This year has been one of moving forward. Picking up the fragmented pieces and constructing a new life, one where I’ll hopefully land out further down the road toward my goals and dreams.

At the end of December I’ll be leaving the day job. It’s a decision I didn’t make lightly, but one I should’ve made long, long ago. I hadn’t realized how stressed I was until a coworker asked me a huge question one day. Do I ever find myself wishing my life away, one week at a time?

That one question changed my entire focus. OMG. I did. Every single Monday. Every single week I wished it was Friday. I lived for the weekends. I began my weeks off by wishing five of the seven days would just go the heck away so I could have the freedom, the happiness that my weekends afforded me.

I’d wished an entire year away. Repeatedly. For how many years? WOW!

It was a punch to the gut. A pained moment of clarity I wish I’d had fifteen or twenty years ago. Talk about an eye-opening process.

My bill-paying job is no longer my priority. My life is. My happiness and well-being are newfound priorities. My family is. My friends. My writing.

Living is my priority. Not existing. Not surviving the weekdays.

So, as 2017 enters the final quarter, I go into it with a new clarity, a new vision for the upcoming year. I may not have every day of my next year planned out from 9-5 weekdays, but I’m confident I’ll land on my feet and be a happier me than I’ve ever been.

So, as we enter the final quarter of 2017, I hope we all find that clarity, that gut-wrenching insight into what we want most out of the upcoming year.
