Amy Sue Nathan
Left to Chance
*I received an ARC. Thanks to GoodReads First Reads, St. Martin's Press & Amy Sue Nathan for the opportunity. This is my honest & unbiased review.*
One reason I love and prefer Women's Fiction over traditional romance is that the characters generally feel more like real people, with real lives - not just some hunky guy being chased by some gorgeous female or vs. versa, basically stand-ins for real. This book didn't let me down in that respect. Teddi Lerner (the main character) felt like a friend, like someone I could talk to and enjoy being with. A person with real flaws and insecurities, and at times, total cluelessness about how her actions have impacted those around her. She develop and grows and in the end she will leave you smiling.
It's interesting that I didn't realize until after I'd read it that there was no sex in it. And I didn't miss it at all. It wasn't needed to make this a great story.
Not a spoiler... although I guessed one of the "issues" with Shay from dropped clues, I absolutely didn't see the other big reveal coming. And it was perfect.
I rarely ever feel the need to mark phrases in a fiction book. However, I have 3 pages dog-eared (yup, I'm one of those beasts!) that contain phrases that are so meaningful to me personally.
Read it. You'll enjoy it.
